Welcome to this collaboration between Halal Street, The Curious Society, and Muji – Halal Street Eats!

In this video series, we’ll be exploring the halal restaurants of Toronto, showcasing the diverse and delicious food available in the city.

Join us as we dive into the culinary scene and meet the people behind some of the best halal eateries in Toronto.

In the first episode, we’ll be showcasing Zuhra’s Mantus, a family-owned catering business that specializes in traditional Afghan dumplings.

We’ll be trying their signature mantus, which are filled with spiced ground beef and served with a tangy yogurt sauce.

We’ll also be learning about the history of this unique dish and the cultural significance it holds for the Afghan community.

In the second episode, we’re talking to Malai Murabba, a modern Indian-Middle Eastern fusion halal food business that puts a contemporary twist on classic dishes.

We’ll be trying their fresh, creamy malai and sweet, tart mango murabba – both sure to please your taste buds.

Malai is a rich cream and Murabba is a preserve. Malai Murabba makes a fresh malai that is rich, smooth, and creamy; and the mango murabba is irresistibly sweet, tart, and tangy.

In the third episode, we’re visiting Northern Smokes, a halal smokehouse that specializes in slow-cooked meats and bold flavors.

We’ll be trying their juicy smoked brisket, which is cooked for hours over wood and charcoal.

We’ll also be trying their short ribs, smoked chicken, tri-tip and of course that lovely cornbread!

In the final episode, we’re stopping by Cassata Royale, a beloved Italian-East African fusion food business that offers a wide variety of flavours.

We’ll be trying all 5 of their cassata flavours; The Original, mocha, french vanilla, pistachio, and mango biscoff.

Cassata ice cream is a traditional dish from Italy and usually has 3 flavours of ice cream arranged side by side – also sometimes known as Neapolitan or Harlequin Ice Cream.

Cassata Royale, however, follows a traditional East African method that is fondly enjoyed on the coast of Dar es Salaam, Tanazania.

This collaboration between Halal Street, The Curious Society, and Muji promises to be an exciting and informative journey through the diverse halal food scene in Toronto.
