Halal Street EATS Season 1 Episode 1 is here!
In this first episode, we’ll be showcasing Zuhra’s Mantus (@zuhras.mantu), a home-based catering business that specializes in traditional Afghan dumplings.
We’ll be trying their signature mantus, which are filled with spiced ground beef and served with a tangy yogurt sauce.
Afghan mantu is one of the most popular dishes from Afghanistan. These little dumplings are a staple of Afghan cuisine, and they’re absolutely delicious!
They’re usually filled with spiced ground beef or lamb, and they’re served with a variety of toppings and sauces.
One of the things that makes Afghan mantus so special is the way they’re prepared.
The dough is rolled out into thin sheets, and then small circles are cut out using a special tool called a mantu cutter (which looks kind of like a cookie cutter).
The filling is then placed in the center of each circle, and the edges are pinched together to create little pockets.
Once the mantus are filled and shaped, they’re boiled or steamed until they’re cooked through.
Then, they’re typically served with a tomato-based sauce, along with other toppings like yogurt, cilantro, and chopped onions.
Not only are Afghan mantus delicious, they’re also a great example of the rich culinary traditions of Afghanistan.
They’re often served at special occasions and family gatherings, and they’re a beloved comfort food for many Afghans.
